Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Former Brave Warriors’ striker Gerros \u2018Bomber\u2019 Witbeen will join the national team as manager.<\/p>\n

The Namibia Football Association announced his appointment over the weekend.<\/p>\n

He will focus on organising team initiatives, delegating tasks, allocating resources and setting team goals.<\/p>\n

Renowned for his dynamic presence on the field, he is considered one of the finest footballers to emerge from the new generation of athletes in post-democratic Namibia during the early 1990s.<\/p>\n

The likeable, bow-legged former Chief Santos Football Club and Brave Warriors’ sharpshooter was known for his powerful, cannon-like shots that left many goalkeepers with disfigured fingers.<\/p>\n

Despite not having signed a contract yet, Witbeen is enthusiastic about the opportunity, and is eager to contribute to the team\u2019s success.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t signed a contract yet, but I know what is expected of me, and I am looking forward to this opportunity. I really appreciate the chance to be part of the team in this way.<\/p>\n

I also have a lot of experience, and can offer advice to the coaching team. But it is up to them to knock on my door if they need it. For now, I will serve in the position I have been offered,\u201d said Witbeen.<\/p>\n

His stellar career saw him become a household name in Namibian football, and he continues to be celebrated for his contributions to the sport.<\/p>\n

Having retired from professional football several years ago, Witbeen is stepping into his new role as the team prepares for the 2026 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Liberia on 6 June and Tunisia on 9 June, as well as the Cosafa Cup, scheduled for 12 to 25 June.<\/p>\n

His experience and leadership are expected to be invaluable assets to the team.<\/p>\n

Witbeen\u2019s football journey began at a young age with Chief Santos, and he made his national debut for the Warriors in January 1993 against Zambia.<\/p>\n

Over his career, he scored a total of 11 goals in 47 appearances for the national team, including two memorable goals in a 3-3 draw against Angola at the Africa Cup of Nations in 1998.<\/p>\n

He also led Chief Santos to victory in four NFA Cups in 1991, 1998, 1999 and 2000.<\/p>\n

Warriors\u2019 head coach Collin Benjamin clarified that Witbeen was appointed by the executive council, and emphasised that his selections include assistant coach Ronnie Kanalelo, video analyst and goalkeeper coach Arnold Subeb, as well as sport scientist Garren Smith.<\/p>\n
