Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>NAMIBIA and Germany have signed two agreements worth 19 million Euros aimed at ensuring climate-resilient water supply and groundwater management in northern Namibia, as well as urban development in Lu\u0308deritz and Aus.<\/p>\n

These agreements were signed by Obeth Kandjoze, Director General of the National Planning Commission, and Dr Andreas Go\u0308tze, Deputy Head of Mission of the Federal Republic of Germany.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe commitments for the signed agreements were made during Government Negotiations on Development Cooperation between Namibia and Germany in June 2023. In the scope of these negotiations, strategies and priorities for future cooperation are discussed and agreed upon. The Namibia-German cooperation has yielded positive development results and has contributed to Namibia\u2019s quest to achieve its national aspirations such as employment creation, poverty reduction, and reducing inequality,\u201d the German Embassy explained.<\/p>\n

Following Government Negotiations in June 2023, the embassy added, this year\u2019s bilateral consultations took place from 24 April to 26 April 2024 in Swakopmund. The German Embassy added that Germany pledged to align its future development cooperation with Namibia\u2019s development strategies, such as the National Development Plans (NDPs), including the upcoming NDP6 set to launch in April 2025, the Harambee Prosperity Plan (HPP), and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

The embassy further pointed out that before the 2024 inter-governmental consultations, the two parties conducted a field trip to monitor project progress and development impacts in areas like Rural Development (bush control and biomass utilisation), Natural Resource Management (NamParks), Environmental and Climate Change (Benguela Marine Spatial Planning), Renewable Energy under the Energy H2 Partnership Namibia\/Germany (HyIron), and projects completed under the former Namibian-German Special Initiative Program, which concluded in 2017.<\/p>\n

\u201cEmployment creation, poverty reduction, and reducing inequality are central components of the relations between Namibia and Germany. Germany\u2019s official development assistance since Namibia\u2019s independence until 2023 amounts to approximately 1.6 billion Euros (roughly 32 billion NAD). In per-capita terms, Namibia is thus the largest recipient of German development cooperation in Africa,\u201d the German Embassy added.<\/p>\n

The next bilateral negotiations on Development Cooperation are planned for September 2025 in Lu\u0308deritz, \/\/Karas Region.<\/p>\n
