{"id":75429,"date":"2024-08-23T16:55:00","date_gmt":"2024-08-23T16:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/all-roads-lead-to-omuthiya"},"modified":"2024-08-23T16:55:00","modified_gmt":"2024-08-23T16:55:00","slug":"all-roads-lead-to-omuthiya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/all-roads-lead-to-omuthiya","title":{"rendered":"All roads lead to Omuthiya"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Omuthiya town in the Oshikoto region is prepared to host Namibia\u2019s 34th Heroes\u2019 Day commemoration on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Oshikoto governor Penda Ya Ndakolo told New Era on Wednesday that preparations are complete, and the region is set to host Heroes\u2019 Day.<\/p>\n<p>The day, which is also recognised by the United Nations, is a national public holiday celebrated annually on 26 August to commemorate the heroic exploits of those who liberated Namibia from the chains of colonialism and apartheid.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe region is fully-prepared in terms of logistics, finance, accommodation and other aspects. The region is just putting the finishing touches on the event preparations,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that they are grateful to late president Hage Geingob for selecting Omuthiya to host Heroes\u2019 Day last year, despite the event having been shifted to Windhoek due to logistical challenges related to the arrival of the esteemed guest of honour of Cuba, president Miguel Mario Di\u0301az-Canely Bermu\u0301dez.<\/p>\n<p>Ya Ndakolo thanked President Nangolo Mbumba for the opportunity to host this year.<\/p>\n<p>Heroes\u2019 Day will significantly boost Omuthiya\u2019s economic growth.<\/p>\n<p>An influx of visitors in town means local businesses will benefit.<\/p>\n<p>The day will also educate the young generation about Namibia\u2019s journey to independence as well as the heroes and heroines who sacrificed their lives for the country\u2019s freedom.<\/p>\n<p>Ya Ndakolo said about 15000 people are expected to be in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI encourage all Namibians from all the 14 regions to join Omuthiya in commemorating the day,\u201d the ex-defence minister said.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Omuthiya traders who are interested in selling within the venue during the commemoration day are advised to register at the governor\u2019s office to obtain permission.<\/p>\n<p>Helena Nghihalulwa, a kapana seller at Omuthiya market, said this is the best opportunity for them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is good news to businesspeople. We are happy and ready to make money,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>She added that her business has improved over the past seven days \u2013 all thanks to the build-up to Heroes\u2019 Day.<\/p>\n<p>Another businesswoman is Selma Haihambo, who said she could not wait for Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are lucky to have Heroes\u2019 Day commemorated in our town. The government should give this opportunity to all regions,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, businesswoman Susan Nghishidimbwa appreciated the government for allowing this special occasion in their town. She sells traditional baskets, attire and pots.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople should support us because this is the best way to promote our business,\u201d she advocated.
