{"id":76853,"date":"2024-09-18T15:28:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-18T15:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/nedbank-for-good-series-hits-10th-round"},"modified":"2024-09-18T15:28:00","modified_gmt":"2024-09-18T15:28:00","slug":"nedbank-for-good-series-hits-10th-round","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/nedbank-for-good-series-hits-10th-round","title":{"rendered":"Nedbank for Good series hits 10th round"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span><b>Clarissa Chipfupa and Glenville Dantu were crowned winners of the 2024 Nedbank for Good Series\u2019s round 10 in Windhoek on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>The event lived up to expectations, with 99 amateur golfers participating \u2013 11 of them women \u2013 the biggest number of female participants in the tournament so far.<\/p>\n<p>The defending women\u2019s champion, Chipfupa, scored 41 points to claim victory ahead of Natasja Louw, who scored 37 points in second place, and Jolene van Schoor, who scored 36 points in third place.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the tournament, Chipfupa said it was a great game and praised her fellow participants for inspiring the next generation of female golfers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBeginning with a par on the first hole boosted my confidence for the day. There were one or two disappointing holes but I kept encouraging myself,\u201d said Chipfupa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe team I played with played a big role in motivating me. Being the defending champion also motivated me to do well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chipfupa said she only started playing golf three years ago after being persuaded by her husband. She called on other women to join her on the course, emphasising that the sport is not only for men.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGolf is a game for everyone. I find it so relaxing because my week is very hectic and my life in general is very busy, as I am a wife, a mother and a professional. I find my time at the course relaxing. So, I would encourage the ladies out there to come and join in on the games,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Chipfupa said as one who is passionate about charity, she is looking forward to the finals at Omeya on 4 October.<\/p>\n<p>In the men\u2019s competition, Dantu scored 46 points, taking the victory ahead of Clyde Besser, who scored 41 points in second place, and Lucky Ngwenya, who scored 40 points in third place.<\/p>\n<p>Dantu said his strategy was to play the shots well, control the course and play manageable shots.<\/p>\n<p>He spoke about the objectives of the Nedbank for Good series this year, following his win.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor me, any benefit you can give to the farmers, especially during the current drought season that the country is facing, and the fact that I have family members who are farmers as well, makes me try hard to give back to the community,\u201d Dantu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur company, which also sponsored my team today, tries to assist the farmers in every way possible, including installing solar pumps, as a give-back initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At the prize-giving, Nedbank Namibia executive Biniam Ghirmatsion pledged the bank\u2019s continued support for the initiative and expressed the bank\u2019s pride in the milestones reached by the series recently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the past years, this event has gone from strength to strength\u201d Ghirmatsion said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also know that every year the number of players is increasing.
