Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>NORTHERN local businessman Ben Haupindi donated 40 bags of cement to the community of Olupito village in Okalongo for the construction of their community toilets on Friday.<\/p>\n

Haupindi, known for running mini markets in the northern part of the country and also being a farmer, said the donation was made in his personal capacity.<\/p>\n

According to Haupindi, they have a mandate to always give back to the community that supports them in running their business.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the little funds at our disposal, we will do our best to help the community as part of our corporate social responsibility,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Haupindi also promised to assist with all the necessary building materials to ensure the completion of the male and female toilets.<\/p>\n

He further informed the community that they will also contribute towards paying for the labor involved.<\/p>\n

Okalongo constituency councillor Laurentius Iipinge indicated that Haupindi is one of the people who truly care about the community.<\/p>\n

Iipinge stressed that these toilets are not for any political party, but for the entire community of Olupito and anyone who needs to use them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know that this is a time of elections, but this should never be seen as a campaign tactic, but as a benefit for all community members,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He emphasized that once completed, the toilets will benefit everyone.<\/p>\n

Local resident Eunice Haukongo could not contain her joy, saying they did not expect such a generous gesture from anyone.<\/p>\n

She added that this donation means everything to them, and for their sponsor to give out of their own pocket at a time when the economy is struggling is a blessing.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not just for the residents of Olupito, but also for the generations to come after us,\u201d she concluded.<\/p>\n

The construction of the Olupito toilets began in August and is expected to be completed by the end of October.<\/p>\n
