Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Popular Democratic Movement (PDM) leader McHenry Venaani has promised to establish at least one manufacturing or processing industry in all 121 constituencies, if voted into power.<\/b><\/p>\n

This would accelerate development and create jobs for the youth, says Venaani.<\/p>\n

Venaani was speaking during a rally at Nkurenkuru in the Kavango West region on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis will be a private sector driven initiative, with the government playing a facilitatory role in terms of enacting friendly legislation for the initiative.\u201d<\/p>\n

It would further consider tax rebates and incentives to make industries more competitive, Venaani said.<\/p>\n

The PDM hopes to transform the structure of the economy from one dependent on production and the export of raw materials, to a value added, industrialised economy driven primarily by the private sector,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must banish the spectre of young and able-bodied young men and women who leave our rural areas in search of mirage jobs in urban areas. We envision the youth in every constituency developing its niche market and creating jobs for themselves by producing both for export and local consumption and thus reducing rural-urban migration.\u201d<\/p>\n

Venaani said in order to boost local industries, his government will mandate that at least 80% of goods and services procured by the state come from local manufacturers.<\/p>\n
