Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>President Nangolo Mbumba praised teachers for their vital role in shaping Namibia\u2019s future during a World Teachers\u2019 Day message on Saturday.<\/b><\/p>\n

A former teacher himself, Mbumba highlighted the importance of listening to educators and supporting their needs.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, on World Teachers\u2019 Day, as a former teacher, I recognise the invaluable role of educators in shaping the future of our nation. This year\u2019s theme, \u2018Valuing Teachers\u2019 Voices: Towards a New Social Contract for Education,\u2019 resonates deeply with our collective commitment to ensuring that teachers\u2019 voices are not only heard but actively shape the education system and educational outputs,\u201d Mbumba said.<\/p>\n

Mbumba also mentioned the government\u2019s ongoing work to improve conditions for teachers and enhance their professional development.<\/p>\n

He pointed to the ongoing legislative efforts, noting that the Ministry of Education, Arts, and Culture is working on the Namibia teaching profession bill.<\/p>\n

This bill aims to align Namibia\u2019s education system with Sustainable Development Goal 4, the United Nations\u2019 Transforming Education Summit agenda, and the Harambee Prosperity Plan 2.<\/p>\n

Once passed, the Professional Teachers Act will elevate the teaching profession by setting ethical standards and promoting continuous professional development.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will continue to invest in teacher development, improve their working conditions, create learning environments responsive to the needs of all learners, particularly the most vulnerable, and support innovation in education to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world,\u201d Mbumba said.<\/p>\n

He urged government to recommit itself to ensuring that teachers are valued and respected.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe must continue to build an education system that recognises the indispensable role of teachers in our nation\u2019s development.\u201d<\/p>\n
