Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>OMUTHIYA \u2013 The Oshikoto Directorate of Education, Arts and Culture has pointed out that there are 528 temporary classrooms in the region that are not conducive to teaching and learning.<\/p>\n

According to the directorate\u2019s deputy director, Tomas Kalimbo in an interview with Nampa on Thursday, these consist of pre-fabricated classrooms, sheds, tents and shacks.<\/p>\n

Kalimbo said all temporary classrooms have to be replaced with proper permanent classroom structures if schools are to improve teaching and learning conditions.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll those are not the classrooms that we desire, as they are not conducive to teaching and learning,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He further said the government alone cannot fulfil the education needs of all schools in the country, and they truly value, appreciate, and welcome classroom donations.<\/p>\n

Kalimbo further requested the school management, staff, school boards, and parents to develop their schools and not just rely on the regional office, regional council or the ministry to bring about the development needed.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo not sit idle and wait on us. Be active and committed to developing your schools and take good care of all your infrastructure that you have as a school,\u201d Kalimbo said.<\/p>\n

He also encouraged learners to take good care of their infrastructure and further called on the learners to prepare well for their end-of-year examinations and assessments.<\/p>\n
