Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE government has allocated an amount of N$50 million towards the construction of a new Ohangwena Regional Council headquarters during the current financial year.<\/p>\n

The need for a new office has been necessitated due to a lack of office space, after a number of staff members have been forced to share offices over the years. At the moment, N$10 million has been approved to kick-start the first phase of the project.<\/p>\n

Ohangwena Regional Council spokesperson Silas Nepembe told The Namibian that the project has been on the cards since 2016, however, it was halted due to the prevailing economic downturn.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe project was halted to allow money to be diverted to more critical needs in the country at the time, but we are now ready to start, and funds have been made available,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He added that the feasibility study and the drawings of the new office are already in place, and the envisaged construction is an extension of the existing building.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt present, we do not have enough space. We have in some instances four colleagues sharing a standard office, hence the need for the expansion,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The new building will also house the regional governor as well as the chairperson of the regional council. The double-storey building will be constructed on the regional council’s existing premises.<\/p>\n
