Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The National Housing Enterprise has delivered a total of 506 houses during the 2023\/24 financial year.<\/p>\n

This was revealed by NHE corporate communications and marketing manager Mutonga Matali during a media engagement at Ondangwa in the Oshana region on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Matali said, they are working around the clock to address the housing backlog and to deliver houses to Namibians.<\/p>\n

The country\u2019s housing backlog was estimated at 300 000 units by the end of 2023.<\/p>\n

As part of their drive to provide housing, NHE has two major projects underway at Ondangwa and Omuthiya.<\/p>\n

At Ondangwa, NHE is constructing 64 houses at a cost of N$27 million, and these will benefit low to middle-income- earners. Thirty houses are being constructed at Omuthiya at a cost of N$6.5 million, and will benefit ultra-low-income-earners.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have strengthened our policy infrastructure to guide each process in NHE, which makes workflow easier, and to ensure that we accelerate housing delivery to clear the housing backlog,\u201d Matali said.<\/p>\n

He added that they can deliver houses on time, as they are now able to access funding for capital projects after they managed to \u201ccatchup\u201d with their audited financial report that was dated back to seven years.<\/p>\n

\u201cPreviously we would struggle with funding. But now we are being approached by banking institutions, making it easy for us to roll out housing projects,\u201d Matali said.<\/p>\n

NHE has also reactivated its Excess Loan which was on hold, and is urging clients to take advantage of their service offering that includes the Building Loan.<\/p>\n

The Excess Loan started off with a payment of N$20 000, and has since been increased to N$50 000. The process does not require bond registration, and the money is paid out to the client within a week of application.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the Building Loan can be up to N$1 million, depending on the amount the client qualifies for.<\/p>\n

He urged NHE clients to contact regional branches in Oshakati, Rundu, Keetmanshoop, Windhoek and Walvis Bay to access the various loan facilities offered by the institution. -Nampa<\/p>\n
