Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Former defence minister Peter Vilho, who resigned from his job after being linked to corruption, blames the Republican Party (RP) for the country\u2019s challenges.<\/b><\/p>\n

Vilho was speaking at a Swapo campaign in Windhoek on Saturday.<\/p>\n

In his speech, the former minister detailed consistent sabotage by opposition parties, particularly the RP and the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM), of vital economic projects such as the Baynes Hydropower Project.<\/p>\n

He said the RP, alongside other smaller parties, was depicted as a coalition striving to undermine Swapo\u2019s efforts with governance and economic reform.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have those who control our national resources and are represented by the RP. While the government is funding your studies through the Namibia Students Financial Assistance Fund, once you graduate, the RP can still prevent you from practising your profession,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The former minister also criticised remarks allegedly made by RP president Henk Mudge saying that apartheid was dismantled by his father, Dirk Mudge, rather than through Swapo\u2019s efforts.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis type of rhetoric seeks to undermine the sacrifices made by our people,\u201d Vilho said.<\/p>\n

He questioned what Mudge\u2019s party would do to address the constitutional mandate to rectify economic disparities stemming from apartheid.<\/p>\n

Vilho implored attendees to weigh their options carefully as the elections approached.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo you wish to preserve a system where a small group controls the wealth of our nation? Or do you desire a fairer distribution of resources and opportunities for all?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n
