Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Hundreds of police officers, soldiers, and correctional officers turned up to cast their votes during the special elections in the Zambezi region.<\/b><\/p>\n

Voting started on Wednesday morning at Ngweze Community Hall at Katima Mulilo, where the special voting polling station for the region is located.<\/p>\n

Regional electoral officer Lesley Simwanza told The Namibian that they are satisfied with the pace of the voting process and with the voter turnout.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did not experience any problems so far. The voters are also well-informed on the voting process; thus, there are no delays,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

He says they could not determine how many voters to expect, as they only received a list from the correctional service, while the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) and the police did not provide them with their lists.<\/p>\n

\u201cSeven correctional officers cast their votes. As for the NDF and police, we are not sure if all those who are coming today will be on duty on the 27th of November, as we were not provided with a list. However, since we cannot send them away, we are just allowing them to vote as long as they have their voter cards, force number, and an appointment letter,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n

Simwanza adds that observers from the majority political party are present to see whether the voting process is going accordingly.<\/p>\n
