Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>The Shotokan Karate Academy Swakopmund (JSKA Namibia) recently recognised the achievements of its karateka across all levels.<\/b><\/p>\n

From children to seasoned campaigners, the dojo has consistently showcased excellence at national and international events throughout the year.<\/p>\n

Sensei Valdemar Swart, the owner of the dojo for 33 years, commended the dedication and discipline of his athletes.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis year has been remarkable for our dojo. Our students have excelled in both the art and sport of karate. Their hard work and discipline are what make us proud to represent JSKA Namibia,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The year kicked off with the NKF National Trials in February, followed by hosting the Swakop Open tournament in April.<\/p>\n

In June, athletes represented the dojo at the AUSC Region South Tournament, and in September, others competed at the National Youth Games at Ongwediva.<\/p>\n

The dojo also made its mark at the NF National Championships in October, held at Walvis Bay.<\/p>\n

The highlight of the awards ceremony was Cayden Poulton receiving the overall best performance award for Shotokan Swakopmund, a testament to his exceptional dedication and skill.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe dedication of the Shotokan Swakopmund dojo karateka is evident in their success. These athletes are setting the benchmark for karate in Namibia and beyond,\u201d said the chief instructor of JSKA South Africa and Africa, sensei Soon Pretorius (eighth dan).<\/p>\n

A significant highlight of the year was hosting Pretorius from 6 to 9 November for a training camp at Swakopmund.<\/p>\n

More than 100 karateka, ranging in age from 6 to 76, participated in the sessions.<\/p>\n

The training covered all aspects of Shotokan karate, including kihon, kata, and kumite, emphasising unity and excellence in the style.<\/p>\n

At the camp\u2019s conclusion, Pretorius presented nine Japanese grading certificates to successful candidates, including some of Namibia\u2019s top karateka.<\/p>\n

The dojo is preparing for an exciting year ahead, starting with the NKF National Trials and the Swakop Open.<\/p>\n

In November 2025, a team will proudly represent JSKA Namibia at the JSKA World Cup in Matsuyama, Japan.<\/p>\n

The academy is also gearing up for the Commonwealth Karate Federation Elite and Club Championships, taking place in Durban later this month.<\/p>\n

\u201c2025 promises to be another exciting year,\u201d Swart said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are ready to build on this year\u2019s success and continue to grow as a dojo.\u201d<\/p>\n
