Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span> <\/b>With just five days to go before the elections, the Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) has been able to secure about 140 vehicles for the Kunene region, leaving a shortfall of 200 vehicles.<\/p>\n

Namibians will vote next Wednesday to elect members of the National Assembly and the President, who will lead the country for the next five years, with the ECN saying it is fully-prepared to conduct free and fair elections.<\/p>\n

Giving an update on the electoral body\u2019s preparedness for the 2024 elections, ECN election officer for Kunene Mike Nganjone told Nampa yesterday that the commission needs 200 more vehicles to conduct the elections in this region.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe don\u2019t have enough vehicles. As a matter of fact, the testing of vehicles was up until yesterday, but there is an extension for us to continue until we secure the number of roadworthy vehicles we need,\u201d he added. Nganjone further urged members of the public to avail their vehicles in order to make the election exercise a success.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe have secured roughly around 140 vehicles, but we still need 200 vehicles more,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

A group of 1 260 polling officials are currently undergoing training, which will end on 24 November.<\/p>\n

All sensitive materials have been dispatched to the Kamanjab, Outjo and Khorixas constituencies, while materials for the Epupa, Opuwo Rural, Sesfontein and Opuwo Urban constituencies are yet to be distributed.<\/p>\n

The Kunene region has 180 polling teams, and 515 fixed and mobile polling stations. The region has more than 55 000 registered voters.<\/p>\n
