Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>ERONGO police have issued 657 traffic fines to the value of N$733 740 between 1 and 27 December.<\/b><\/p>\n

According to the police monthly statistics report, Walvis Bay recorded the most summonses, amounting to 243, followed by Swakopmund with 167 and Karibib at 140.<\/p>\n

The police also issued 83 speeding summonses during this period, of which 55 were issued at Karibib and 28 at Swakopmund. Seventy drinking and driving summonses were issued, of which 35 were issued at Walvis Bay,<\/p>\n

12 at Swakopmund, eight at Henties Bay, and the rest were recorded at other towns. During this period, only one road fatality was recorded in the region.<\/p>\n

The police also recorded 84 road accidents, mostly at Walvis Bay and Swakopmund, with 37 and 22 accidents recorded respectively. Sixteen accidents were recorded on the B2 road, eight recorded near Karibib, with six slight and one serious injury. Erongo acting regional commander, deputy commissioner Tobie Gerber says Christmas weekend was relatively quiet.<\/p>\n

\u201cMost towns in Erongo almost reported no crimes the past Sunday and Monday. It is evident by the numbers of people who go out every day for fishing, 4×4 driving and recreational activities that the people are enjoying the weather at the coast, it is just sad to see the amount of garbage that is left behind,\u201d Gerber says.<\/p>\n
