Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>THE Namibia Statistics Agency has started preparations for the 2021 census.<\/b><\/p>\n

Mid-2021, the agency announced the postponement of the 2021 Population and Housing Census to August 2022. Initially, the census was scheduled for August 2021, however, it was postponed due to competing priorities, such as the Covid-19 budget.<\/p>\n

The statistics agency’s board chairperson, Salomo Hei, says in addition to the census preparations, the agency is also strengthening its position as the functional leaders of the national statistical system.<\/p>\n

In his New Year’s message, Hei said: \u201cGood and timely statistics enable us to make better, more informed choices about the things that matter most in our society, economy and livelihoods. It is critical that all Namibians have access to statistics they can trust.\u201d<\/p>\n

The board chair believes this year will see the agency deliver the largest ever census in Namibia and is pleased with the mapping process. The National Planning Commission is funding the exercise on behalf of the government.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe year 2022 is a big year in the life of the Namibia Statistics Agency. The past 24 months have been dominated by the terrible Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to disrupt and shape our lives in equal measure,\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n

Moreover, the statistics agency has been developing a new strategy over the past few months. \u201cAt the centre of our new strategic plan is a commitment to ensuring our work has a positive impact on the lives of Namibians now and into the future,\u201d Hei noted. The new strategic plan will be launched at the end of March this year.<\/p>\n
