Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>As students ready for the start of the 2022 academic year, including Nanso\u2019s 17th national congress, the organisation\u2019s acting president Gregory Madi is hopeful the congress will address the needs of students in the country.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs the congress approach, we hope the spirit of critically analysing and addressing the issues that students and learners face consumes us and leads us into a successful electoral congress,\u201d he stated recently.<\/p>\n

The Namibia National Students Organisation (Nanso) holds its national congress every two years, with the previous event held in 2019.<\/p>\n

The 2021 congress where the new office-bearers were supposed to be elected, did not take place due to Covid-19 regulations, and was then postponed to May this year.<\/p>\n

Speaking to Youth Corner, Nanso\u2019s acting vice president, Luciano Kambala said over the past few years, Nanso has done much work to ensure it is self-sustainable and does not rely on government funding, this includes acquiring assets.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe new leadership that will take over will have to continue expanding and maintaining the current status of the organisation,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

As the leadership tries to eliminate a substantial structural deficit, Kambala said Nanso is currently in a better position and hopes for the incoming leadership to continue striving to achieve a common goal, which is to rebuild a united Nanso.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt the moment, Nanso is at its peak after a very long time of divisions within the organisation. There was a time Nanso was not as active as it is today, and we are confident that whoever takes over will sustain the current status or do better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Madi and Kambala are part of the new cadres that were appointed on an acting basis last October. They will serve until the next general student council, which is the highest decision-making body, after the congress.<\/p>\n
