{"id":94736,"date":"2025-10-08T15:46:09","date_gmt":"2025-10-08T15:46:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/plans-underway-to-introduce-as-at-impalila"},"modified":"2025-10-08T16:20:21","modified_gmt":"2025-10-08T16:20:21","slug":"plans-underway-to-introduce-as-at-impalila","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/plans-underway-to-introduce-as-at-impalila","title":{"rendered":"Plans Underway to Introduce AS at Impalila"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>IMPALILA ISLAND \u2014 The Directorate of Education in the Zambezi Region is exploring plans to expand the curriculum at Impalila Combined School to include Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level once resources allow, regional education director Alex Sikume has revealed.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to New Era during an interview on Friday, Sikume said the initiative forms part of the directorate\u2019s long-term strategy to improve access to quality education in isolated communities such as Impalila.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are considering expanding the curriculum to AS when resources allow \u2014 in terms of classrooms and hostel facilities,\u201d Sikume explained.<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cThat\u2019s the plan for the future because, looking at this island, it\u2019s so isolated. You can achieve good results here because there will be fewer disturbances from the outside world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to him, once the AS level is introduced, the directorate envisions establishing a functional hostel to accommodate learners, thereby creating a more focused learning environment.<\/p>\n<p>Impalila has an enrolment of 398 learners, ranging from pre-grade to grade 11.<\/p>\n<p>Currently, Impalila Combined School has a community-built hostel, but it is not yet operational.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a community hostel, but the government does not yet fund it. We have minimal resources. We added three hostels on top of what we had last year in the region, and we are thinking of adding others depending on the financial resources available,\u201d Sikume shared.<\/p>\n<p>He added that because Impalila\u2019s hostel is not yet subsidised, it relies solely on parental contributions.
