Africa-Press – Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>POLICE inspector general Sebastian Ndeitunga has confirmed the questioning and release of a man who had allegedly threatened to kill sitting president Hage Geingob and his predecessors Hifikepunye Pohamba and Sam Nujoma.<\/b><\/p>\n

Sakaria David (41) was taken in for questioning in Windhoek on Friday, after a recording of the threat was widely circulated in WhatsApp groups. On the same day, a woman from Oshakati, Linea Andreas, was also taken in for questioning after she alleged that health and social services minister Kalumbi Shangula was falsifying statistics on the number of Covid-19 deaths in the country.<\/p>\n

When contacted for comment, David confirmed that he had threatened Geingob, Pohamba and Nujoma, but said that he now wanted to apologise and would not attempt to harm them.<\/p>\n

He said the police picked him up at his house in Katutura on Friday morning, where he was arrested in the presence of his two children before being taken to the police national headquarters in Ausspannplatz.<\/p>\n

According to David, the police asked him who he was and to whom he was politically affiliated. He also said the police officers that questioned him refused to give him their names.<\/p>\n

\u201cI just said Namibians deserve the most and not only three people (Geingob, Pohamba and Nujoma) who have accumulated so much wealth for themselves and their families,\u201d he told The Namibian.<\/p>\n

Andreas said she could not comment on the matter of her allegations against Shangula, as she was in church. Ndeitunga said he gave an order that the two should be arrested and charged for what he called an abuse of their freedom of expression.<\/p>\n

\u201cI told police officers to leave no stone unturned. I said they should identify them immediately and charge them,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ndeitunga added that people should not use their freedom of expression to suppress the rights of others. \u201cWho are they to all of a sudden threaten to summarily execute the presidents and make threats to state security?\u201d<\/p>\n

He added that the police, defence force and other security agencies have to defend and be loyal to the people of Namibia. \u201cWho are they to say that the government is illegitimate? If they believe that the government is not doing what they want, they should wait for national elections.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will never tolerate this nonsense and anarchy. I want to tell their handlers locally and internationally that this is an independent and sovereign country. They should not use their stooges to destabilise the peace and stability of the country.\u201d<\/p>\n

It was unclear by yesterday evening why David and Andreas had not been charged. Oshana police regional commander Rauha Amwele said she was not aware of Andreas being questioned as it had not been reported to her.<\/p>\n
