{"id":97089,"date":"2025-11-28T18:39:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T18:39:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/tsandi-omugulugwombashe-road-officially-opened"},"modified":"2025-11-28T20:17:18","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T20:17:18","slug":"tsandi-omugulugwombashe-road-officially-opened","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.africa-press.net\/namibia\/all-news\/tsandi-omugulugwombashe-road-officially-opened","title":{"rendered":"Tsandi \u2013 Omugulugwombashe road officially opened"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff6600\"><strong>Africa-Press &#8211; Namibia. <\/strong><\/span>Minister of Works and Transport Veikko Nekundi officially opened the upgraded District Road 3633 which links Tsandi village to the Omugulugwombashe settlement in the Omusati region, during a ceremony yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Nekundi stated that the upgraded road, constructed to low-volume seal standards is expected to improve travel safety, reduce dust, and enhance access to essential services for the people of Tsandi, Omungulugwombashe, and surrounding villages.<\/p>\n<p>It also provides a direct link to the Omugulugwombashe Memorial of Heroes, a site of historical significance in Namibia\u2019s liberation struggle.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNamibia has embarked on a bold transformation in governance, anchored in accountability, coordination and effective service delivery that puts people first,\u201d Nekundi said.<\/p>\n<p>The project, constructed at a total cost of approximately N$84.9 million, was fully funded by the Government of the Republic of Namibia. The local community benefited through the employment of 198 men and women, support of local football teams with sports kits, and resurfacing a local football field at the contractor\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n<p>The minister highlighted the socio-economic benefits of the project, stating that the development of rural roads forms a strong base of our national economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a powerful instrument for socio-economic transformation in the villages. For that reason, the importance of providing rural roads can hardly be undermined in the context of our economic and social goals. The positive impacts of providing rural roads are evident in various ways, which are visible to our people,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He added that the road provides much-needed opportunities for the villagers to come in contact with other groups of society which in turn, inculcates in them a sense of being part of the national economic mainstream to prosper.<\/p>\n<p>He further stressed the government\u2019s vision that \u201cThe completion of this project brings us a step closer to achieving our objectives to expand the road infrastructure network in rural areas and to provide connections to the formerly neglected marginalised communities. Our Government will continue to fast-track projects to ensure that we reach our Vision 2030 goal, which is to provide a safe and cost-effective transport infrastructure throughout our country, serving rural and urban communities,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n<p>The chairperson of the Roads Authority Board, Martins Kambulu addressed the continuation ceremony for Phase 2 of the Tsandi\u2013 Onesi\u2013Epalela Road.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a profound honour to stand before you today, at the heart of a community whose resilience and advocacy have been the driving force behind this project. We are gathered here today to celebrate a shared commitment to progress as we officially commence phase 2 of upgrading the Tsandi-Onesi-Epalela road to low-volume seal standards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Kambulu recognised the role of community advocacy, stating that they acknowledge the community\u2019s patience and perseverance.<\/p>\n<p>Omusati governor Immanuel Shikongo highlighted the transformative nature of the road. He stated that the completion of the road is not just about infrastructure, but it is about accessibility, dignity, and opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will allow our residents to travel more easily, to reach essential services, and to connect with markets, schools, and healthcare facilities.
