National Unity Democratic Organisation (Nudo) parliamentarian Vetaruhe Kandorozu has called on party members to set aside their differences for the good of the party.<\/p>\n
Of late, the party has been hit by division and infighting among members, a situation that caused the party to lose seats in Parliament, he lamented.<\/p>\n
The party also lost one of its strongholds, the Okakarara constituency, in the November 2025 regional council elections to the Popular Democratic Movement (PDM).Speaking to New Era publication recently, Kandorozu said Nudo needs a comprehensive strategic plan to respond to socio-contemporary political issues and be appealing to the young people who are the majority voters.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe time has come to swallow our pride and have a completely different approach to have a political party that everyone will regard as an alternative party to join,\u201d Kandorozu said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe must do away with distractive political behaviour such as infighting and groupings. We must have give-and-take concepts for the policy of inclusivity to be born in the party,\u201d said the former Okakarara constituency councillor.<\/p>\n
He then appealed that those in positions must not sideline others and those who are not part of the leadership must refrain from digging a hole for the leadership.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis status quo must end, as all of us will be trapped in and fall into the darkness that we are currently experiencing,\u201d said the parliamentarian. As victims of all sorts of unorthodox political behaviour, Kandorozu said party cadres must serve as an example using their past experiences and demonstrate that they can unite as individual members and unite the party in general.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy doing that, we will serve as a beacon of hope in political fraternity. The time has come to follow the political structure succession plan of hierarchical governance to avoid external infiltration of anyone who never served the party in any structure,\u201d he said, adding that this will prevent unnecessary infighting between members during the congress. Kandorozu added that this will also encourage members to work harder for the party at the district level, up to the top structure.Approached for comment, Barry Rukoro, a staunch Nudo member who was at the centre stage of the party controversies in the previous Presidential and National Assembly elections in 2024, welcomed Kandorozu\u2019s call.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is the right thing to do, and it is the only thing left to do after everything else proved not to have worked,\u201d said Rukoro.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Veparura Kandirikirira, Nudo\u2019s Youth League secretary general, agreed with Kandorozu, saying that the infighting in the party among members will destroy the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe need to set our differences aside in the name of Nudo. It is a great call from honourable Kandorozu, and we need to regroup for the better,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Kandirikirira said the party\u2019s loss in Okakarara to PDM is because of the infighting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is the fact: we lost due to some party members who voted for the PDM candidate in the Okakarara battle, while we also lost in the Omatako constituency. But Omatako was a fair political competition,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The youth leader further called for more internal talks ahead of the congress to iron out all thorny issues within the party.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese talks must be guided by democratic principles. We must remove traditional leadership from party issues, as their involvement and influences have destroyed the party,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
