Galatasaray reeled in their city rivals Istanbul Basaksehir for the second season in a row last night to claim the Turkish Super Lig title. With two games left in the season and head-to-head trumping goal difference in Turkey, this was a winner takes all affair for the teams level on points.
Galatasaray went 1-0 down to Robert Bajic’s goal before Sofiane Feghouli equalised. Then came the hero, in the form of an Everton loanee.
Henry Onyekuru scored the all-important goal. The Everton man arrived at the back post to head home Younes Belhanda’s deflected cross and secure another title for the Istanbul giants.
It was the Nigerian’s 16th goal of an impressive season in Turkey and Everton fans will be very excited about seeing him finally playing at Goodison Park.

That is, if they ever get the chance. Onyekuru joined the club from KAS Eupen in 2017 for a fee reported by the BBC to be in the region of £7 million. However, work permit issues saw him immediately loaned out to Anderlecht last season. With the same problem arising last summer, he was sent to Turkey.

As reported by Hurriyet, Gala want him again next season and are willing to pay £2 million for another loan.
Everton will be hoping they get a chance to bring in Onyekuru. He is likely to feature for Nigeria at the African Cup of Nations this summer, which could give him a massive boost in search of a work permit.
But if not, the 21-year-old is clearly popular in Turkey and a loan return to Galatasaray might be the best option.
