Africa-Press – Nigeria. A wildfire outside the premises of the Federal College of Education, FCE, in Yola has destroyed 10 shops.

The fire that occurred on Saturday reportedly resulted from bush burning.

The incident left the victims in anguish, lamenting the loss of wares they said ran into millions of naira.

Adamawa State Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, who paid a visit to the scene, warned residents to refrain from bush burning.

She said: “This is the dry season. The Harmattan winds are very strong. People should stop indiscriminate bush burning, especially around residential areas.”

One of the victims, Mercy Paul, said she lost all her hairdressing salon equipment to the fire.
