Africa-Press – Nigeria. Rivers State representative in the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, Tony Okocha, has disclosed the existence of over 953 abandoned projects in Rivers State.
Okochja disclosed this during a recent session with traditional rulers in the state, where he affirmed that a 200 per cent increment in the 2024 budgetary allocation for NDDC by President Bola Tinubu will help to address infrastructural challenges in Niger Delta communities.
“In my study, it was clear that Rivers State is number two in states that have abandoned projects. Rivers State has 953 abandoned NDDC projects. These projects dotted the nooks and crannies of the state,” he stated.
Earlier, NDDC Executive Director of Finance and Administration, Boma Iyaye, disclosed the 200 per cent increase in the commission’s 2024 budget.
“The Federal Government has approved N300 billion for the Niger Delta region. That is a very serious leap from what it used to be. We used to be in the region of N109 billion for the entire region, but in 2024, it has moved from about N100 billion to N300 billion,” he said.
