Africa-Press – Nigeria. Abia State government has commenced the training of teachers in the use of smart board and other digital tools in, preparation for the phasing out of chalkboard, papers and pen in its school system.

The training which commenced on Friday in Umuahia by the State government, would involve learning management system and school management system for the introduction of smart schools in the state.

Speaking on Friday during the first day of training, executive Chairman of the Abia State Universal Basic Education, ASUBEB, Lydia Onuoha and Director for teachers development in ASUBEB, Okenwa Ugochukwu said teaching and learning would be conducted in the smart schools that would be established across the state.

According to the ASUBEB officials, the best of trained teachers from the 17 LGAs of the State would be in charge of the smart schools in their respective areas while the traditional system of teaching and learning would gradually be phased out.

” With this training of teachers for the smart schools, we begin the process of moving from chalkboard to smart board.

“Going forward, in line with these interventions mentioned, each classroom would have smart board”, Lydia Onuoha said.

Explaining the new policy further, Mrs Orieji Okwara Emele, whose firm is in charge of the training exercise, said Governor Alex Otti has mandated that Abia children should be taught to compete with their global peers, noting that the smart board in schools would be equipped with internet access while students would do their assignments with tablets and other digital tools, not physical books.

Mrs Emele said the migration to smart schools would also give Abia students comparative advantage as WAEC and NECO 2026 prepare for Computer Based Tests in 2026.
