Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Niger State Government has awarded the construction of a 12-kilometre road project from Mokwa to Rabba, valued at N7 billion, in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Mohammed Umar Bago made this known during an on-the-spot assessment and sympathy visit to the people of Mokwa.

According to him, the road project, which will commence immediately, will include the construction of four bridges to connect the two communities.

The governor also directed the relevant ministries, departments and agencies of government in the state to carry out a comprehensive survey of the waterways and topography of Niger State, with a view to relocating residents along waterways to prevent a recurrence of such disasters.

“I urge you people to unite and not to allow sentiments among you, especially in a period like this. I assure you of government continued commitment to the wellbeing of its citizens,” Bago told the victims.

The governor also visited Rabba community to assess the bridge that was washed away by the flood and to sympathise with the affected residents.
