Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Lagos State Government has arrested two suspects accused of illegally dumping waste along the Ikorodu-Itowolo highway.
The development was confirmed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, in a post on X on Wednesday.
According to Wahab, the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of the day by officials from the Monitoring and Compliance Department of the Lagos Waste Management Authority, LAWMA. They were caught in the act of roadside refuse dumping.
Following their arrest, the suspects were handed over to the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Task Force, while the vehicle used in the offence has been impounded and is currently being held at LAWMA’s Ogudu office.
The Commissioner confirmed that the offenders will be charged in court in accordance with the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law, 2017.
“Both suspects have been transferred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution. This action underscores our commitment to enforcing environmental regulations and maintaining a clean and healthy Lagos,” Wahab stated.
