Africa-Press – Nigeria. THE University of Zimbabwe, in collaboration with the Municipality of Kariba, has embarked on a project to map the town’s water and sewage distribution system using drones.
The initiative, which started on Tuesday and will run up to Saturday, is part of a survey aimed at developing a Web-GIS-based dashboard for real-time visualisation of Kariba’s water and sewage distribution system.
This cutting-edge technology will allow for real-time monitoring and management of the water and sewage systems, enabling quicker response times to leaks, blockages and other issues.
The use of drones in this project is a significant step forward for Kariba’s water and sanitation services.
“All drone operations are authorised and will be conducted by a professional team from the University of Zimbabwe in accordance with relevant aviation and privacy regulations,” the municipality said.
“Residents are kindly advised not to be alarmed by the presence of drones flying over various parts of the town during this period.
Council said the initiative was a testament to the power of collaboration between local authorities and academic institutions, and was expected to have a lasting impact on the town’s water and sanitation services.
