Africa-Press – Nigeria. Botswana head coach Alex Malete has expressed disappointment following his team’s 1-0 defeat to the Super Falcons.
The Mares delivered a resolute performance against the nine-time African champions but conceded in the final minute of regulation time.
It marked Botswana’s second defeat at the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Malete’s side must now win their final group game against Tunisia to stand any chance of progressing to the quarter-finals.
The young coach insisted his team deserved more from the encounter with Nigeria.
“We deserved more, we deserved to get a point. It was all about showing the spirit we have in the team, and we have also shown a lot of quality. We take the positive, even though it was a painful loss,” he told reporters after the match.
Botswana currently sit at the bottom of Group B with zero points from two matches.
