Wike Launches FCT Water Project Commissioning

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has commenced another round of project commissioning and flag-off across the capital city.

This comes after Wike embarked on 16 days of project commissioning which ended on July 3, 2025.

However, Lere Olayinka, Wike’s Senior Special Assistant, Public Communications and Social Media, said the Minister will today, Tuesday, August 19, 2025, commission the completely rehabilitated Phase 2 Water Treatment Plant at Lower Usuma Dam, in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council.

A statement by Olayinka said: “Flag-off of the construction and expansion of water supply to FCT Satellite towns will start tomorrow, with Lot 1; Bwari Township in Bwari Area Council.

“On Thursday, Lot 2; Karu town and environs in Abuja Municipal Area Council will be flagged off by the Minister.”

The Greater Abuja Water Supply Project was commissioned on June 16, 2025.

Wike had disclosed that the FCT administration signed a new agreement during President Tinubu’s 2023 visit to China, meant to extend water supply to satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu.

He said procurement processes for those extensions were near completion, with promises of timely delivery.
