Africa-Press – Nigeria. Yobe State Hisbah Commission has destroyed a large quantity of confiscated alcoholic drinks in Garin Alkali, Bursari Local Government Area.
This was made known in a statement signed by the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Dr. Yahuza Hamza Abubakar, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday.
The exercise, according to the statement, was conducted in continuation of the Commission’s mandate to enforce the sanctity of Shari’a and the laws of Yobe State.
The Commission also confirmed that 84 persons were arrested in connection with prostitution and alcohol-related offenses, comprising 34 men and 50 women.
They were arrested alongside alcohol dealers during the operation.
“All the arrested persons have been charged before a competent court of law, while the houses used for the illicit activities remain sealed pending further directives from the Hisbah Commission”, it said.
Yobe State Hisbah Commission had carried out a major raid in Garin Alkali, said to be aimed at curbing immoral and anti-social activities that are harmful to the moral fabric of society.
