Natasha: Senate’s letter contemptuous – Inibehe Effiong

Africa-Press – Nigeria. A human rights activist and lawyer, Inibehe Effiong, has criticised Nigerian Senate over its letter barring the return of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha-Akpoti Uduaghan.

Effiong made his views known on Tuesday, while responding to questions in an interview on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television.

The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday told Natasha that she could not resume office yet, despite completing her six-month suspension.

Responding, the human rights activist stated that he found the letter of the senate embarrassing, scandalous, contemptuous and very disparaging of the Nigerian people.

“You can’t say that someone who has served punishment apportioned to her exhaustively should not return.

“The court has made it clear that parliament cannot suspend its members indefinitely,” he said.
