PDP Criticizes EFCC for Detaining Reps Aspirant

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Kaduna State Chapter, has condemned the arrest and detention of its candidate for the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency bye-election, Princess Esther Ashivelli Dawaki, and her Campaign Director General, DG, Shehu Fatangi, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

The aspirant was arrested following the discovery of over N39 million in his possession during the by-election.

Maria Dogo, Publicity Secretary, PDP, Kaduna State, in a statement on Friday, said the party is worried over the continuous detention of the duo, nothing that the development underscores the desperation of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to weaponize security and anti-graft agencies to harass, intimidate, and suppress the opposition.

The statement explained that the security agency released 25 other arrested persons but held onto the aspirant and his campaign DG.

”Our legal team filed an application before the Kaduna State High Court to secure Mr. Fatangi’s release. However, before the application could be determined, the EFCC hurriedly arraigned both Mr. Fatangi and Mrs Dawaki before the Federal High Court on charges of money laundering and alleged vote buying,” the statement said.

Kaduna PDP extended sympathy to the families of Mrs Dawaki and Fatangi, assuring them and all party faithful of its unwavering resolve to secure their release at the earliest possible time.
