Africa-Press – Nigeria. A farmer, Mr Tachia Akor, was reportedly killed on Sunday by persons suspected to be armed bandits at Tse Akor Gbatse, a community in Mbamar clan, Nyiev Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, Benue State.

The assailants, who struck between midnight and 1:00 a.m., also inflicted severe injuries on the deceased’s wife and another victim, Mrs. Mbagbedi Tsetim.

Both women were rushed to Adi Hospital in Daudu town for treatment, while several villagers were said to be missing at the time of filing this report.

Community sources disclosed that the attack came less than 24 hours after residents alerted the Benue State Government and security agencies about a planned invasion by suspected herders.

According to the sources, intelligence reports received on September 12 indicated that armed men, allegedly camped in Rukubi, Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, were plotting to attack border settlements in Guma, accusing locals of involvement in the disappearance of their three children a week earlier.

During the invasion, the attackers reportedly shot Mr. Akor dead, leaving his body later deposited at the Daudu mortuary. Residents alleged that the attackers were still sighted traversing deserted villages in Guma, calling on authorities to take urgent steps to flush them out.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Command, DSP Udeme Edet, said personnel had already been deployed to restore calm.

“Yes, we were informed. Our men are already on it and investigation is ongoing. Immediately we heard the news, our men were deployed, and normalcy has returned to the area,” the PPRO stated.
