Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Governor of Jigawa State, Malam Umar Namadi, has directed the state’s education sector to place greater emphasis on rewarding outstanding performance while taking disciplinary action against negligence of duty by teachers.
Governor Namadi made this known while speaking at the 2025 Best Teachers Award Ceremony, organized by the State Science and Technical Education Board, held at Sir Ahmadu Bello Hall, State Secretariat, Dutse.
Describing the award ceremony as one of the most impactful initiatives in the state’s education sector, the Governor stressed the importance of recognizing and celebrating excellence in teaching.
“This is one of the best initiatives, coming alongside our broader efforts to promote quality teaching and learning in our schools. If someone performs poorly and is sanctioned, then those who excel must be acknowledged and rewarded,” the Governor stated.
He urged other education bodies, including the Senior Secondary School Management Board and the Islamic Education Bureau, to emulate the initiative by introducing similar award schemes to motivate teachers across all sectors.
The Governor commended the Science and Technical Schools Board for organizing the 2025 Best Teacher Award, reiterating that excellence in teaching is critical to achieving quality education.
He further emphasized that infrastructure alone is not enough to drive educational development without competent and motivated teachers.
“That is why we have embarked on the recruitment of teachers at all levels, to reduce the student-teacher ratio in our schools. In addition, we are investing significantly in the training and retraining of teachers, because new ideas and developments constantly emerge in the education sector,” he explained.
Governor Namadi assured continued government commitment to supporting the education sector, promising sustained investment in both human capital and infrastructure development.
