Africa-Press – Nigeria. Troops of the Joint Task Force (JTF) North East, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), have stopped a large shipment of supplies meant for terrorists in Yobe State.
The Theatre Command, in a statement on Thursday, said the interception happened on September 16 during counter-terrorism operations under Operation Desert Sanity IV.
It explained that soldiers, acting on credible intelligence, stopped a red 14-tyre trailer with suspicious goods along the Nguru–Gashua road at about 7:40 a.m.
“The vehicle was later moved to a secured location and carefully offloaded. On inspection at about 9:00 p.m. the same day, troops discovered 700 bags of NPK 20:10:10 fertilizer used in making IEDs, 27 cartons of assorted drugs, and nine cartons of normal saline solution, all concealed beneath bundles of fabric materials,” the statement said.
The command revealed that the supplies were meant to be moved to Niger Republic, exposing a cross-border network feeding terrorist groups.
The statement added that, earlier that day at around 10:30 a.m., soldiers on the same route intercepted two Sharon buses and another trailer carrying large quantities of fabric and solar panels.
Intelligence reports suggested the fabrics were to be used to sew uniforms for terrorist fighters.
“All drivers, motor boys, and the recovered items are in custody, pending further investigation and the arrest of identified consignees and consignors,” the statement added.
The Theatre Command assured the public that troops remain alert to block terrorist supply chains.
It also urged communities to keep sharing information that could help security operations.
The Military High Command commended the troops for what it described as an “impressive operational performance” in disrupting logistics channels used by the insurgents.
