Africa-Press – Nigeria. Rivers United players have been rewarded with a cash prize of $5,000 for securing qualification to the money-spinning group stage of the CAF Champions League.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Chris Green, made the pledge to the players after their victory over Mozambican side Black Bulls.
The Pride of Rivers defeated Black Bulls 3-1 in the second leg of their second-round tie on Saturday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
Rivers United won the contest 3-2 on aggregate.
Wasiu Falolu, Maclyn Biokpo and Timothy Zacharia scored for Finidi George’s side, while Moctar Diallo reduced the deficit for Black Bulls two minutes after the break.
This is the first time Rivers United will be playing in the group stage of the competition.
