The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday arraigned Barr. Aisha Alkali Wakil popularly known as Mama Boko Haram at the Borno State High Court, Maiduguri, over alleged N66 million fraud.
She was arraigned alongside the Programme Manager of Complete Care and Aid Foundation, Tahiru Alhaji Saidu Daura.
Complete Care and Aid Foundation is a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) owned by Barr. Wakil.
Wakil and Daura were arraigned on a three- count charge of cheating and conspiracy to the tune of N66 million.
A petitioner Ali Tijani had alleged that his company was on September 7, 2018 awarded a contract to supply processed maize grain otherwise called BISKI worth N15m.
According to him, the company collected the said grain from Maiduguri Flour Mills and supplied it to Complete Care and Aid Foundation and this was received by Daura on behalf of the NGO, but have refused to pay for them.
One of the charges against the defendants read: “That you Tahiru Saidu Daura, while being a Programme Manager of Complete Care and Aid Foundation, Aisha Alkali being the CEO of the Foundation On the 7h September, 2018 at Maiduguri within the Jurisdiction of this Honourable Court dishonestly induced Ali Tijani, the CEO and Alter Ego of AMTMAT Global Ventures to deliver to you processed Maize grains (BISKI) valued at N51, 000,000.00which you are yet to pay and thereby committed an offence contrary to Section 320(a) and punishable under Section 322 of the Penal Code Cap 102 Laws of Borno State.”
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Fatsuma Muhammad applied for a trial date and requested the remand of the defendant in a correctional centre.
Justice Kumaliya granted the defendants bail in the sum of N30 million and two sureties in the like sum.
The sureties, according to the judge, must be at the level of a permanent secretary in the civil service and must equally have landed property in GRA, Maiduguri with the property’s titles deposited with the court registrar.
The judge adjourned the case till January 13.
