Africa-Press – Nigeria. The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, has destroyed counterfeit, expired and substandard products valued at about twenty billion naira during its South West zonal destruction flag off held at the Moniya dumpsite in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The agency said the move was part of ongoing efforts to protect public health and rid the market of unsafe and falsified items.

According to officials, the items crushed at the site included substandard and fake medicines, unsafe processed foods, counterfeit cosmetics and a range of expired goods seized from manufacturers, importers and distributors across the region.

The exercise also covered expired and damaged products voluntarily handed over to the agency by compliant companies, non governmental organisations and trade groups.

NAFDAC said the operation was aimed at ensuring such dangerous products no longer find their way back into circulation, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding the health of consumers in the country.
