Africa-Press – Nigeria. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Nasarawa State has urged the state government to urgently tackle the worsening security situation that has continued to threaten lives across the state.
In a statement released by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Comrade Idris Ojoko, the ADC condemned the surge in violent crimes, particularly in the southern axis, describing the trend as disturbing and intolerable.
According to the party, communities in Lafia, Obi, Keana and Doma Local Government Areas have, in recent months, endured repeated attacks ranging from kidnappings to brutal killings. Yet, the ADC noted, government response has been slow and largely ineffective.
“Despite the severity of these incidents, there have been no notable arrests or credible prosecutions to reassure citizens that the government is committed to confronting this crisis,” the statement read.
The party reminded the state government that the protection of lives and property remains its foremost constitutional duty and must not be taken lightly.
“As a party focused on the well-being of the people, we are alarmed that these criminal activities persist unabated.
“Families are grieving, communities are terrified, and public confidence in the government’s capacity to provide security is fast eroding,” the ADC said.
The party called on Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration to demonstrate stronger political will by reinforcing the state’s security architecture, adopting intelligence-led operations, and restoring peace in affected communities.
“Farmers should be able to return to their fields without fear, and potential investors must be confident that Nasarawa is safe for economic activities and development,” the statement added.
The ADC’s concerns come on the heels of fresh attacks by unidentified gunmen in Keana and Doma LGAs, where several lives were reportedly lost.
