Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Kebbi state command of the National drug law enforcement agency (NDLEA) has destroyed more than 25 tonnes of seized illicit drugs in a major public exercise.

The destruction took place on Saturday at Kolar area in Birnin Kebbi and included 16,951.105kg of cannabis, 8,093.381kg of tramadol, 336.978kg of Akuskura (THC), 0.027kg of cocaine, and small amounts of methamphetamine.

Deputy director of general operations at NDLEA Headquarters, Muhammed Usman, represented the agency’s Chairman, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), at the event. Usman said the destruction followed a Federal High Court order in Birnin Kebbi and was in line with the NDLEA Act.

“This occasion signifies a major achievement in our ongoing efforts to curb substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in the country,” Usman said. “It also sends a strong message to those engaged in drug-related crimes.”

Kebbi state NDLEA Commander, Rabiu Abdullahi Sokoto, warned that the state’s strategic location makes it a transit point for traffickers. “Our porous borders with Niger Republic to the north and Benin Republic to the west have increased the inflow of illicit substances into the country through Kebbi,” he said.

He warned does engaged in the drug trade to desist or face the wrath of the agency.
