Africa-Press – Nigeria. Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefashas called on members of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, deployed to the state to demonstrate patriotism and commitment as they begin their national service.
The governor made the appeal on Friday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2025 Batch C Stream I orientation course held at the NYSC permanent orientation camp in Sibre, Ardo-Kola Local Government Council.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps, the governor applauded the NYSC for its longstanding role in promoting national unity and fostering discipline among Nigerian youths.
He urged the new corps members to participate actively in all camp activities, noting that such engagement would better prepare them for the challenges and responsibilities awaiting them during the service year.
“We consider Youth Corps members and the NYSC scheme as crucial development partners, endowed with the energy, training, talent, and skills needed to galvanise the state and the nation toward a better society,” he said.
He added that the orientation course was designed to equip participants with both physical and mental readiness for effective service, and encouraged corps members to take advantage of the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, SAED, programme to enhance their employability and self-reliance.
Earlier in his remarks, the Taraba State NYSC Coordinator, Mr Ella Aji Williams, commended Governor Kefas for what he described as unprecedented support for the scheme in the state.
He said the administration’s consistent interventions and cooperation have significantly aided the NYSC in fulfilling its mandate in Taraba.
“As we gather to formally induct you into the National Youth Service Corps, it is my honour to express our profound appreciation to the Executive Governor of Taraba State, Dr Agbu Kefas, for his unwavering support to the NYSC family,” he said.
