Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Conference of Past Legislative Council Leaders (CPLCL) has distanced itself from alleged moves by leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, to stop Plateau State Governor, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, from joining the party.
The group, which is made up of former legislators cutting a cross all party platforms, which made its position known in a statement on Sunday, said its attention was drawn to a statement by a certain group known as the Immediate Past Councillors Forum of Plateau State under the leadership of one Hon. John Dashe, purporting that the rejection of Mutfwang from joining the APC had the blessings of the the rumoured decampment of the CPLCL.
In the statement jointly signed by Rt. Hon. Damar Yaksun, Rt. Hon. Fom Wash Toma and Hon. Eng. Samuel Azi, who were former leaders of Qua’anpan, Barkin Ladi, and Jos East Legislative arms, stated that they were never consulted nor did they give any form of endorsement to the moves.
“We wish to unequivocally distance ourselves from the said press conference where they joined other APC groups to reject Governor Mutfwang from joining the APC,” the group said.
“This we do for the following reasons: ‘The press conference was made without due consultation with members and thus does not reflect the collective view of our organisation.
“The press conference does not reflect the priorities of our association, even by a simple majority, and appropriate channels for reaching such a decision.
“As a body of respected grassroots politicians, we operate collaboratively, not in isolation, with the core aim of connecting our people to opportunities that enhance their lives while promoting the ideology of our esteemed party, the APC.
“As a progressive party in West Africa, the APC stands and focuses on bringing more willing people to its fold for societal growth and development.
”In summary, we believe it is time for all Nigerians to come together. Through the power of unity, we can confront the insecurity that threatens our shared existence as a nation.
“We firmly believe that our great party, the APC, serves as the umbrella that unites us all. We are proud to be part of this movement,” the group added.
