Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Sokoto State government has commended troops of the Nigerian Armed Forces for foiling an attempted ambush by suspected bandits in Sabon Birni Local Government Area.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Special Adviser to Governor Ahmed Aliyu on Security Matters, Col. Ahmed Usman (rtd), said the attackers attempted to ambush traders travelling from Tarah village to the weekly market in Sabon Birni on Sunday before they were swiftly neutralised by security operatives.
Usman described the military’s response as timely and professional, noting that their intervention averted what could have been a tragic attack on innocent residents.
“The swift response, professionalism and courage displayed by our military personnel once again reaffirm their commitment to protecting the lives and property of our people,” he said.
He added that the state government deeply appreciates the sacrifices of troops and urged them to sustain ongoing operations aimed at flushing out criminal groups across Sokoto and the wider North-West region.
The government also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and provide timely intelligence to security agencies, stressing that public cooperation remains essential to defeating banditry.
“Anyone aiding or abetting criminal activity will face the full weight of the law,” he warned, adding that networks of bandits, informants and collaborators would be dismantled.
Usman reaffirmed Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s commitment to supporting security agencies with the resources needed to strengthen security operations in the state.
