Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old man, Sahabi Rabi’u, in connection with the murder of a 30-year-old nursing mother and her 10-month-old baby in Sheme village, Faskari Local Government Area.

The Katsina Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Sadiq, said on Thursday that the suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation, adding that he acted with an accomplice who remains at large.

The victims were allegedly lured to the outskirts of the village, killed, and their bodies burned before being thrown into a nearby well.

Investigators linked the killing to a paternity dispute involving the victims. The bodies have been recovered, and the suspect is currently in custody.

Police said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing accomplice.

Katsina Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, condemned the act as “barbaric and inhumane” and assured that the investigation will be thorough, with justice served.

The police have appealed to members of the public to provide confidential information that may aid the arrest of the second suspect. Updates on the investigation will be provided as they become available.
