Umar Chuso Becomes Nasarawa's 30th Police Commissioner

Africa-Press – Nigeria. The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the assumption of duty by its new Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, the 30th police chief to lead the command.

Chuso succeeds CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, who has been redeployed to the Police Staff College, Jos, as Deputy Commandant.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, the Command stated that Chuso brings with him an extensive background in operational policing, administration, and law enforcement leadership.

According to the statement, the new Commissioner “appeals for the continued support and cooperation of all stakeholders to collectively confront and overcome all forms of criminality in the state.”

Chuso, a native of Sokoto South LGA in Sokoto State, holds a Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Economics from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in June 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and trained at the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

He has served in several strategic positions, including Deputy Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos; Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Kano State; DCP Criminal Investigation Department, Kano; and Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State. He was also the pioneer Area Commander in Argungu, Kebbi State.

His wide-ranging experience also includes postings as Divisional Police Officer in multiple locations across Sokoto and Kebbi States, as well as roles at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (Interpol), Abuja.

He has attended various professional courses within and outside Nigeria, such as Tactical Leadership and Combat Training, Higher Military Strategy, and a Human Rights Protection Course at Texas Southern University, Houston.

The Command noted that CP Chuso is “committed to enhancing the protection of lives and property, sustaining peace, harmony, and improving rapid response across Nasarawa State.”

He further urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, and residents to share timely and credible information with the Police to support crime prevention. CP Chuso is married with children.
