Agwara town in Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State came under attack late Saturday as armed bandits overran the community.

The development was disclosed in a post on Sunday by security analyst and crisis journalist, Bakatsine, via his X handle.

According to the post, residents reported that the attackers operated freely for several hours, subjecting civilians to violence and intimidation amid a delayed security response.

As of the time of filing this report, locals say the assailants are still believed to be in the area, raising fears of further attacks.

Videos circulating on social media show that the bandits set fire to key public and religious facilities during the assault.

Among the structures destroyed were the main Agwara Police Divisional Headquarters and the First UMCA Church, both of which were reportedly torched during the overnight raid that extended into the early hours of Sunday.
