Africa-Press – Nigeria. Residents of Khana State Constituency II and Ahoada East State Constituency II will today, Saturday, head to the polls to elect new representatives to the Rivers State House of Assembly.

The by-elections are being conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to fill vacancies in the State Assembly and restore full legislative representation for the affected constituencies.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, is the only major political party participating in the contests, as the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Labour Party, LP, and African Democratic Congress, ADC, are not on the ballot.

Meanwhile, Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has called on eligible voters in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas to turn out in large numbers for Saturday’s bye-election.

According to him, there is no need for rancour or acrimony, as the election should be conducted in a calm and orderly atmosphere.

In the meantime, the Rivers State Police Command has announced a restriction of movement in Ahoada East and Khana Local Government Areas.

A statement by the Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko said movement will be restricted from 12 midnight on Saturday until 6pm the same day.

She said the order is to ensure a peaceful, free, fair, and credible election.

The police say there will be heavy deployment of security personnel across the two Local Government Areas.
