Makama noted that one soldier was wounded during the encounter.
The injured personnel has been taken to the 21 Special Armoured Brigade Medical Centre for treatment and is said to be in stable condition.
The military said troops are still carrying out further operations in the area to pursue fleeing insurgents and recover any equipment they may have abandoned.
While the general security situation in the theatre is described as calm, military authorities noted that it remains unpredictable.
They added that the morale and fighting strength of the troops remain high as operations continue across the North-East.
