Africa-Press – Nigeria. Lagos State Government has dismissed claims that its monthly environmental sanitation exercise has resumed.
This clarification was provided by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who emphasised that no official announcement has been made regarding the start date of the exercise.
The statement comes amid heightened public interest in waste management, as residents express concern over blocked drains and improper disposal of refuse across the state.
Commissioner Wahab explained that consultations with relevant stakeholders are ongoing to determine an appropriate schedule for the sanitation exercise.
He noted that a sensitization programme had been planned for last week, but logistical challenges delayed its launch.
“The plan was to begin with a sensitization programme last week; however, due to logistical issues, we have not commenced. We are working to identify a date suitable for all parties involved,” Wahab said.
He added that the official date for the exercise will be announced by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu once it is finalized.
The commissioner urged Lagos residents to continue their daily activities without disruption, assuring that ample notice will be provided ahead of the resumption of the sanitation programme.
